BUXTON LODGE WELCOMES EXOTIC VISITORS AND FLUFFY RESIDENTS
21 April 2017
To celebrate spring and the warmer weather, the residents at Buxton Lodge care home, have been welcoming in the wildlife, as well as raising their own chicks to help bring that spring feeling into the home. At the start of the month the residents welcomed Zoolab back to Buxton Lodge, the Uk's Number 1 animal handling experience company, that provides fun and educational visits so that the residents can get up close and personal with all manner of creatures.
The Rangers from Zoolab brought in snakes and reptiles, along with some more cuddly animals too! As always, the Rangers provided really great talks for all the residents, as well as their families who came along to join in the day. Not only was it a great chance for everyone to enjoy the Zoolab experience, it meant that the children got to spend some of their Easter holidays with their grandparents.
The visit was part of a programme of animal therapy run at Buxton Lodge, which has proved very popular with residents. Animal therapy is proven to improve cognitive and social skills in people living with dementia, allowing them to engage with their peers, participate in a fun activity, and see the world from a new perspective.
Buxton Lodge has also welcomed some new residents this Spring, with their Easter chicks arriving on the 6th April. This Buxton Lodge tradition is in its fifth year now, and everyone still looks forward to it just as much. The first chicks to have joined the family this year are Barbara and Patrick, and both the residents and their families are looking forward to meeting the rest of the brood and watching them grow.
Theresa Stanton, the award-winning Activities Co-ordinator at Buxton Lodge, commented:
“We always love having Zoolab come to visit. Our residents always enjoy the talks the Rangers give, as well as the experience of meeting new animals every time."
“Having our chicks come to stay has been even better. All the residents have been involved with them since they hatched, and it’s been so lovely seeing their relatives come in to meet them too! We’re all looking forward to watching them grow up over the Spring before they move to a free-range farm.”
