Creative Minds and Suncatchers
16 March 2017
On Thursday 16 March, we invited Jenny, artist from Creative Minds, to give our residents at Westbank Care Home, an art session. Creative Minds is an arts organisation and social enterprise and was founded in November 2012 by James Cropper. Creative Minds say of themselves "Our Art Sessions are delivered by our community of Creative Minds Artists across the country and enable the participants to explore their creativity and create art and crafts with the support and guidance of an experienced artist. As a community we currently deliver over 200 Art Sessions a month to over 1000 participants and these figures are climbing."
As Spring has sprung and more residents are starting to spend some time in the pretty gardens at Westbank, creating suncatchers seemed like a perfect artistic endeavour.
A number of residents tackled the intricate cutting and sticking task with relish, and one gentleman who is not usually keen on art or participating in organised activities, felt compelled to join in too, and created a masterpiece. Jenny said "Everyone was delighted that he had been inspired to join in the group and that he gained confidence from it. The sessions are designed to be accessible for all, so everyone can enjoy art and creativity!"
It was a fantastic artistic session for everyone involved, and we thank Creative Minds for coming in and providing something a little different for our residents to take part in.
£1Million Refurbishment Brings Luxurious Care to Local Residents
17 February 2017
New and luxurious care environment and care services relaunches in Borough Green following extensive refurbishment programme.
Westbank Care Home in Borough Green, part of the New Century Care Group, relaunched following the completion of a £1 million refurbishment programme. Westbank, which is home to 31 local residents, is now one of the area’s most advanced, luxurious and sophisticated care centres.
Following a six-month refurbishment programme, which drew on the design and style inspiration of residents and their loved-ones, with residents able to choose colours for their bedrooms, the lounge and dining areas, as well as help designing the landscaped garden. The home now offers a modern and homely setting, complemented by views of the picturesque surrounding countryside.
As well as a beautiful new care environment, residents can benefit from a new and specially adapted beauty salon offering hair and beauty pampering, as well as a bright and airy conservatory. The range of care services on offer has also been expanded, with Westbank able to provide independent living, palliative, respite and convalescent care and support. The new care environment means the Activities Team can offer an expanded range of activities each daily, including Bingo, Hoy, craft activities, armchair exercises, as well as local community and entertainer visits.
Genevieve Rodrigues, Home Manager at Westbank Care Home commented:
“This is the start of an exciting new chapter for the community at Westbank. The refurbished home looks wonderful and I am thrilled to have such a dedicated and experienced team, who will be providing the highest quality person-centred care for our residents. We were delighted the Mayor joined us and we thank him for attending our milestone event. We had a lovely time celebrating the re-launch of the home, which showed the warmth and joy so often present here at Westbank.”
Westbank Care Home is part of New Century Care, which provides expert residential and nursing care in a homely setting.
