Susan Maruri, Home Manager at Kenwood Care Home, has achieved a Masters Degree in Dementia Care, whilst working full time for New Century Care.
Susan graduated from Middlesex University this month, after spending four years studying for the degree. She decided to pursue a degree in dementia when she realised most of the referrals from local authorities and private enquiries Kenwood were receiving, related to people living with dementia. She wanted to be able to give residents under Kenwood's care the best care she possibly could, by understanding what it meant to have dementia.
She joined Middlesex University in September 2013 for her first module and continued with her second and third, which she completed in August 2016, with a Graduate Certificate in Dementia Care & Management.
Susan says, "New Century Care helped by providing flexible working hours for me to attend lectures, and my Area Manager was very supportive as well, providing me with books and materials to help with the course."
She went on to say of her achievement, “It was a huge challenge studying for a full masters degree whilst working full time, but I’m so pleased I managed to complete it. I am passionate about caring for people and for those living with dementia, so undertaking this challenge has all been worth it.”
On behalf of New Century Care, we'd like to congratulate Susan on her degree.
