The team at The Oaks care home, in Lexden, Colchester, are celebrating the results of an impressive Care Quality Commission (CQC) report, published 24 January 2018, that rated the home as 'Good' throughout.
The report demonstrates that the home is providing high standards of care for residents and is Caring, Safe, Effective, Responsive and Well-Led.
The CQC inspectors were full of praise for The Oaks, particularly for how caring the staff team are. Inspectors commented on how impressed they were with the '15 minute resident focus' initiative – whereby at 3pm everyday all staff members ‘downed tools’ to spend 15 minutes one-to-one time with a resident who stays in bed or in their rooms. Inspectors also noted how staff treated residents with dignity and respect at all times.
The CQC’s praise was reflected in comments from residents of The Oaks, with one resident commenting on how much independence and choice they were given: “I am able to follow current affairs on my laptop, listen to music and keep in touch with my friends and relatives.”
Another resident praised the effectiveness of the care they received, saying “I get all the care I require. Although I have choice, to be honest I prefer to leave it to the professionals, because I trust them and they have not let me down. I am better for it.”
Relatives also told CQC inspectors how happy they were with the care their family members received, with one relative commenting, "you cannot beat the care here, wonderful." Another relative praised The Oaks for creating a welcoming environment for their family member, saying “the staff have got to know them quickly and their health needs and we go home knowing that they are well looked after, safe and have nice staff around them.”
The Oaks care home, on Oaks Drive in Colchester, was recently refurbished to the highest standards as part of a £2 million upgrade programme. Now, as well as having high quality rooms, communal spaces and luxuries such as a cinema room, The Oaks also benefits from being surrounded by large gardens which were created by award winning gardener, author and lecturer, Beth Chatto. This ensures The Oaks’ residents benefit from the highest quality care and are able to enjoy the highest possible quality of life.
Louise Baxter, Home Manager at The Oaks, commented:
The Oaks care home, in Lexden, Colchester celebrates 'Good' CQC result.
“I am very proud of the whole staff team for their hard work which has resulted in this impressive CQC rating. We are passionate about supporting our residents to lead fulfilling lives, and we constantly strive to provide the highest quality care – for this to be recognised by the CQC, our residents and their relatives is so rewarding.”
“We only want the best for our residents, and regularly engage them in decision making within the home – for example the recent refurbishment that took place last year where residents were behind many of the design decisions. Making sure they maintain fulfilling and exciting lives is one of our top priorities, and we are proud the CQC report recognises this commitment.”
